Check out an article pertaining to my works, interviewed by Michael Cyrs with the American Composers Forum:
I’m thrilled to announce that I have been awarded the Jerome Foundation Commissioning Grant from the American Composers Forum. My new piece “Breathe” written for 2 pianos, electronics and spoken narration, will be premiered by Isabelle ‘Izzy’ O’Connell and Kathleen Supove in New York City on the 26th of January, 2017. Because of this grant, I will be traveling to South Africa sometime after New Year’s to interview my good friend Alice, as she talks about her life and experience with Cystic Fibrosis. I’ve also spent time talking with professionals from the CF Trust in the UK, so the research so far is quite insightful and humbling.
I was selected as an Associate Member with the London Symphony Orchestra’s Composer Soundhub Scheme from 2015-2017. I recently made my debut broadcast curating with LSO’S Resonance FM from 23 January, 2016. I’ll be continuing my broadcast series throughout 2016 and 2017, interviewing American composers.
I’ve recently changed the blog page of my website into a news bulletin, as I don’t really write that much pertaining to topics and subject matters in concert music. This Spring I am curating with Nonclassical, called Americuration, as part of its Hackney Classical series at The Russet in Shoreditch, East London. I am also curating with San Francisco colleague and composer Jon Russell. I’ll have a bunch of pieces performed, with one commission from the Marsyas Trio. Please refer here for the future concert dates at The Russet.
To celebrate David Conte‘s 60th birthday, I’ve been asked to write a short piano work (Frozen in Ecstasy) based on Chopin’s Prelude in E Major, as 24 of his students (past and current) have been selected to write a new piece, based on each key from all 24 preludes. This will take place on 1 November, 2015, at the SFCM Concert Hall. Pianist TBA shortly.
